Jim Crow laws
The Jim Crow laws were created to separate blacks and whites in public places; they were
devised in the late 1800’s along with the development of the K.K.K. and other anti-Black groups.
The laws were meant to show that the blacks were inferior to the whites something that had been
pressed into their minds. Christian ministers also thought that blacks were inferior to whites.
The laws also applied to Mexicans in the south and American Indians in the Midwest.
Who and what were the Jim Crow laws first off there was no Jim Crow he was a fictional
character. Second they were a group of laws devised to put down blacks and to separate them
cause they could no longer be slaves.jim crow meant that the races could no longer mix together
they couldn’t eat together use the same bathrooms or even water fountains (pilgrim N.P.). In most southern states blacks were not allowed to marry whites (Wexler N.P.) or show public affection; nor were blacks were allowed to offer a smoke to a white female (pilgrim N.P.).
Some Jim Crow laws were no colored barbers were allowed to give hair cuts to white females. There were to be no black militia officers in charge of white noncommissioned officers (pilgrim N.P.). Education was also largely affected by the Jim Crow laws they had separate schools and inferior school books (Carson N.P.).Children going to reform schools were also to be keeping entirely separate from each other.
They Jim Crow laws affected every person no matter the color of their skin blacks risked their lives, homes, and jobs for violating the Jim Crow law norms (Pilgrim N.P.). Violence was a strong instrument in keeping order in black communities lynchings were a common practice. Rapes and other distasteful crimes were normally pined to black’s innocent or not (Pilgrim N.P.).
