Revised Case Study
As a new employee Carl Robins wanted to desperately impress ABC, Inc. However his lack of knowledge of time management skills and growing procrastination became his worst enemy. Carl recently recruited 15 new employees and it was his job to schedule and follow through with orientation, drug screens as well as physicals. However Carl failed to manage his time wisely. Some of Carl’s key issues were he was not very familiar with his position, having only worked at his position for six months. Second he procrastinated. Third he did not book the physicals and drug screens. Fourth Carl did not plan ahead and book the orientation room. Lastly he did not have a back-up plan.
The two main issues out of these five were the novice of his position and his procrastination. It appears that from the beginning Carl was never in a very good position to handle this project. This had been Carl’s first recruitment after only working in his position for six months. His boss Monica Carrolls failed to recognize Carls strengths and weaknesses. He was in essence set up to fail at his new position. In my opinion one problem led to the other. Because he was a beginner and had never hired or trained new recruits he did not realize the time it would take to get things in order for his recruits to be trained properly. Therefore he procrastinated on booking physicals and drug screens, as well as the orientation room. His intentions were to complete the job on time. Another key problem started when he failed to schedule the mandatory drug screen for the new hires. Perhaps the long Memorial Day weekend played a part in Carl’s over confidence as he ensured Monica that everything would be arranged in time.
A proposed solution to this problem would be to train Carl a little better. He was still a newbie in his position and had never recruited new employees nor held any kind of orientations...
