Discussion Question #1 Week 3

The organizational structure is dependent on the organization’s function. Depending on the company’s focus and function will determine it structure. A company that is a non-profit will have a different function and structure then that of a production company. While the production company may put more emphasis in its product development, sales and marketing functions. A non-profit would not have these same concerns and these would not be a part of their organizational structure. The whole purpose of organizational structure is to find the best structure to effectively manage the company. This is directly affected by the company’s organizational function. The three main types of organizational structure are Functional, Divisional and Matrix organizations. While each has its advantages and disadvantages the best fit for each would be determined by its organizational Function

The organization structure Boeing utilizes is the matrix structure where they pursue open communication between the project managers and teams. While each department has a senior vice president much like the divisional organization they also incorporate specialization for units who perform specific tasks much like the functional organization. Each senior vice president reports to a centralized executive staff who reports to the board of directors. The executive staff is responsible for company decisions which are relayed to the senior vice presidents for implementation. Functional integration is extremely essential in Boeing’s success. Boeing covers over 70 countries and geography helps define its structure as there is a different market for different products. America and Europe demand passenger aircraft from Boeing while India and Asia demands Military
