1. How did Roosevelt’s feelings of inferiority to his father, a successful New York businessman, impact his career choice?

Roosevelt’s father was one of the best human beings he knew, he could talk to him about anything and everything.

2. Why did Roosevelt develop a combative personality and become a “man of action” as a boy?

Teddy had asthma as a boy, to over come it he started working out in the gym. He also spent the majority of his time outside in nature, which helped his asthma.

3. On what did Theodore focus his attention as a child?

Roosevelt focused his time on history, birds, and nature. He believed he was going to be a naturalist.

4. How did Theodore win over the popular Alice Hathaway Lee?

He won over her family first. He did this by talking politics with her father and buying gifts for the family.

5. Why did he abruptly end his political career and move to Dakota Territory in 1884?

On February 14th, 1884 Roosevelt’s wife and mother died. He wanted to walk away from it and never talk about it again. He left his daughter behind.

The three virtues he learned was how they thought in the west, the importance of workingmen and women, and the notion of cowboys.

Edith almost had maternal instincts with Roosevelt, which he needed. She took care of the practical side of his life. “Do what you can with what you have, where you are.” -Roosevelt

This benefitted him by showing he was a hero and a leader. Helped him become Governor of New York.
