The following essay are short answer responses to the effects of politics on public policy issues, how managing information overload is as crucial for a public administrator as the gathering of information, and if I am aware of an interest group in my city which has been involved in a public policy formulation matter.

The first item to address is the effects of politics on public policy issues. Politics is about being the creator of policy in the best interest of the people. That alone says it all. As a public servant a politician’s job is to translate the people desires into public policy in a manner that is suitable to serve an entire city, county, region, state, or even the United States of America. At times there are difference among political lines such as a difference of opinion, different political parties, ethics, and morals, which can play a role in a public servants political rule.

The second item is how managing information overload is as crucial for a public administrator as the gathering of information. I have seen information overload with regards to a certain client that has over 15 large scale projects and short about 40 staffers. This is a small rural city which does not have the human resources to administer all the projects, so the City Manager must attend to all the projects. At times, during project update meetings she seems to be staring into space. At the end of the meeting she is requesting different methods of submitting all the information so she can properly address them when the time comes. Information overload tends to have the primary information one would be searching for once the gathering of information is required. This is one major reason for all information is crucial to have in a orderly fashion.
