Improving Riordan Manufacturing

Riordan manufacturing is a fortune 1000 enterprise with operations in Georgia, Michigan and China. The corporation was founded by Dr. Riordan. He figured out a way to process polymers into high tensile strength plastics substrates. The company has truly expanded since its beginning in 1991. Expanding its operations to China was a cost saving measure by the company. The Chinese location is near a river that connects to Shanghai docks in the city of Shanghai were the company does much business. After careful researching and studying the China’s Plant operations, I have noticed improvements that can be made to ensure the China plane is operating at its full capacity with minimum errors. To get a clear understanding of the operations at the plant I started with the Finance and Accounting department but after lengthy research, I concluded the China plant Finance and Accounting was linked to the San Jose Office in the Unites States. My recommendations are solely for the China Plant so therefore I did not make mention of any changes in that department. For Riordan’s China location I recommendations are as follows: improving MRP system, a new production process, a feasible supply chain, production forecasting and to show the time frame of these improvements I will provide a Gantt chart.

MRP for Riordan Electric Fans

After reviewing Riordan Manufacturing Inventory Management and Control process, I can conclude this company has a MRP system in place that needs some improvement. According to Chase, Jacobs, and Aquliano, an MRP system provides the schedule specifying when each of the materials parts and components should be ordered or produced. According the inventory process provided by Riordan Manufacturing its MRP system is handled by paper trails using forms. The forms are transmitted from inventory clerk to database. After reading the processes over to myself, I concludes this is what the company considers it MRP system....
