Stem Cell Research Proposal

We have all heard the big controversy with stem cell research now days. Science seems like they are fighting an ongoing battle with humanity and at the same time religion has a lot to say in the Stem Cell Research process. Obviously against the actually research because they say it is actually taking a human life. Stem cells are actually all around us, they are found in our human cells. Such as blood, nerve, muscle and tissue cells to name a few the most commonly used in research today are Adult Stem Cells, which we consider “specialized” cells. These Adult stem cells we can attach to a nerve muscle and have it repair it self, and on the other hand we have the controversial Embryonic Stem cells which are derived from actual Embryos called “blastocyts” when they are only 5-7 days old. [ (Pressberg) ] These Embryonic cells we call “unspecialized” cells which can be induced into any cell In our body and have it regenerate, repair and rebuild itself. What exactly does stem cell research hold and promise for humanity? It holds the promise to the cure of diseases never thought could be incurable, such as Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s, and diabetes just to name a few (Michigan). And also we could possibly one day with enough research find the source of genetic disorders and disease and stop them dead in their tracks within our DNA.

The main problem in the Stem Cell Research field is that there is not enough funding being provided, or support from the public. I believe both of these are actually based on education. People just simply don’t have enough information or know what exactly is going on. If we educate each other on stem cells and find out how they can actually save lives looking at the pros vs. cons examples. I think we have a better chance at persuaded the public that stem cell research hold the key to the future in many ways.
