Digital waste in today’s world is becoming a hidden problem that not many people realize is happening when they install new programs, save documents, or do anything with their computers. There are many reasons as to why this is a problem or could become a problem in the near future. Computer users today want fast and efficient devices and don’t want to spend three minutes waiting for something to open and load. Using the ideas to clear digital waste in computers by using Hasan and Burns’s five-tier pyramid of options, could lead to fewer frustrations and annoyed users. Computer users should be required to clear their digital waste in their computers in order to increase the effectiveness and efficiency of the computer.

Act utilitarianism states that the right action is the one which produces the greatest amount of happiness or pleasure for the greatest number of beings. In the article, producing the greatest amount of happiness or pleasure for the greatest number of beings would be by following the five-tier pyramid of options developed by Hasan and Burns to clear out the digital waste in all individuals computers. All individuals would get the greatest amount of happiness and pleasure by this happening. It doesn’t matter how they get there, all that matters is that they do. By having computers run faster and to be able to better utilize storage and data will produce the greatest amount of happiness for individuals; and therefore is the right action to be made. Rule utilitarianism says actions are moral when they conform to the rules that lead to the greatest good, or that the rightness or wrongness of a particular action is a function of the correctness of the rules of which it is an instance. The correctness of a rule is determined by the amount of good it brings about when followed. When relating this argument to the article it again would be clearing the most digital waste possible to create the greatest amount of happiness for those computer users...
