Noelani Designs Going Local

In the middle of an old December issue of Free Surf magazine, filled with colorful pictures of barreling waves and some well-known surfers, one ad stands out amongst the others. An ad for Noelani Designs shows a picture of a beautiful local girl gazing off into the distance and looking out into the ocean. She seems relaxed and confident, dressed casually but classy, and she displays the jewelry that adds to her ensemble. The setting seems to draw the viewer’s attention to the girl as she is focused and the background of the ocean seems to fade into a dreamy mix of pastel colors. Next to the girl towards the middle right side of the image is a quote saying, “…iconic to women who enjoy the beach-to chic lifestyle (6).” Below this large image that covers the upper half of the page is six smaller pictures of different pieces and styles of jewelry. These include, earrings, anklets, bracelets, rings, and necklaces either worn or set on ti-leaves.

A message from the company, the company’s information, and a picture of the store’s location completes the overall design of the layout. The ad also shares how to purchase Noelani Design’s jewelry by going online to their website, visiting them on Sunday at Haleiwa’s Farmer’s Market, or visiting their studio at Rochelle Ballards North Shore Wellness Retreat. This ad emphasizes how everything is made in Hawaii and uses it as a selling point to reach out to local business supporters. The purpose of this ad is to attract and draw focus to the natural beauty of all the elements in the pictures and to help one recognize how the natural materials of Noelani Design’s handcrafted jewelry enhances the beauty of the wearer.
