LOCAL ENVIORNMENTAL ISSUE

The local environmental issue people face daily in my city is overpopulation. I am from an urban area in the city of Brooklyn, NY; the population is estimated over two million according to the NY census report 2011, ( www.census.gov). Most of which are low income families that live in urban area filled with large apartment buildings and housing projects.

The problem lies in the fact that there have been so much construction in building housing and schools for these families that all that forests and natural habitat that once was is now non excitant and occupied by urban type structures. The amount of waist generated by the population is overwhelming for the sanitation department to control and it is evident in the debris found in the streets. The air is also affected by a large amount of people that use public transportation and the fumes large public buses release into the air.

This is a ripple effect of low education and immigration issues that lead to a large number of families not being able to maintain and cope with the stressors of a life in a suburban area. Our government has put into affect programs to help such families with housing; the problem with this is that the number of families that need housing provided by the government that they all end up consolidated in one area. Hence the areas are now overpopulated and result in many of the environmental issues I previously mentioned.

Some of these issues a related to human values, I have witnessed some families living in government housing not making an effort to better themselves and find better jobs or more education to be able to move to more open living areas. Most of these community members chose to ignor the issues of waist management, there are very few people in my city that actually recycle or even take the time to clean up the streets.
