Powerade Sports Drink
Powerade Sports Drink is a beverage comparable to Gatorade that is manufactured and marketed by the Coca-Cola company. The drink was first introduced in 1988 as the primary competitor to Gatorade. Since then, Powerade has grown and now owns 21.7% of the United States market in the sports drink category while Gatorade still dominates with 77.2%.
Powerade was and continues to be the official sports drink of the Great Olympics. In 2001, a new formula for Powerade was released that now includes B3, B6, and B12 vitamins which assist and play a role in energy metabolism. In 2009, Powerade was relaunched and marketed as Powerade ION4. This Powerade included a formula that contained four key electrolytes (Sodium, Potassium, Calcium, Magnesium) that are in the same ratio typically lost in perspiration.
Powerade will always be competing with Gatorade but I feel as though Powerade will soon become the preferred sports drink, especially for die hard sports enthusiasts. Powerade has an amazing taste in all flavors of the drink but my personal favorite is the Mountain Berry Splash. This drink is a complete drink and I always have one or two with me while I am expecting times of heavy perspiration such as when I golf and the temperature is around 95+ degrees. Powerade is a breakthrough and is the next big thing in sports. Be on the lookout for more good things to come from Powerade.
