Analysis of a Speaker

(Ethos, Logos, and Pathos)

About a couple of months ago I attended a free seminar held at the Radisson Hotel about an advocate of the Law of Attraction by the name of James Arthur Ray. It was the most rewarding and enlightening presentation I had ever heard. James Arthur Ray is a professional speaker and author of Harmonic Wealth, a New York Times bestseller. I was also aware and anxious to hear him speak because I remembered he had came out in the movie, The Secret, as a guest speaker. I really and truly do believe in the Law of Attraction and have applied it in my life even more now ever since I heard James Arthur Ray’s presentation. In order to come across to the audience so well he definitely uses all three techniques of Ethos, Logos, and Pathos to his advantage and ours as well.

James’ philosophy of life can be pretty complex therefore, needs to target how to get people to understand by using examples we can all relate to, facts on how he’s right, and positive reinforcement by targeting our mind, body, and emotions. As you can see all right along the line of Ethos, Logos, and Pathos. His philosophies are teachings including a mix of spiritually, motivational speaking, and quantum physics. Once again as you can see it can get quite confusing or for others too complex. With that being said, James needs to really contemplate on how he can get across to each and every person in the audience without losing anyone along the way. I recall for the first part of his presentation he focused on Ethos.

The funny thing is that we know how Aristotle was the one who came up with these ways to persuade; well James used Ethos by mentioning Aristotle’s philosophy being similar in what he believed in as well. He did this by being ethical, possessing good character, having common sense, and being concerned of the well-being of the audience.
