Prescription drug abuse is becoming more prominent and is beginning to rise as an epidemic. This article clearly states that a good percentage people who are subscribed to prescription drugs are abusing the use. There are many people who only take medicines only for the reasons that their doctors prescribe them for, but there has been huge percentage of people in the United States who have used prescription drugs for nonmedical reasons, which goes down to be prescription drug abuse. These days It has been a growing problem and is becoming very serious. The reason why it is a huge problem is because abusing some of prescription drugs can lead to an addiction. The statistics show that the numbers of deaths on overdose are increasing by the year.

The article stated many facts, but there were several facts that did not come across like the fact that there are on average 2,500 teens use prescription drugs to get high every day. Over fifty percent of teens find and believe that prescription drugs are easier to obtain illicit drugs. In year 2009 alone, on average, 6,027 people per day abused prescription pain relievers for the first time. The total number of individuals that initiated drug use with prescription drugs very well exceeded the number of individuals that initiated drug use with marijuana. One thing this article did not cover was alternative perspectives and worldviews on the abuse of prescription drugs. There were not questionable assumptions addressed in the story, but the biggest question of all should be what is making every abusing their prescription drugs and if it’s becoming an epidemic why is it that no one doing any big thing about it. The doctors who prescribe these medicines to their patients should be in full control on what they hand out to them.
