Violence in Society through the Media
The most popular thing in our world today is not family, schooling, religion or even the newest song by Jay Z. The thing that our world seems to be the most attracted to is violence. Violence is one of the most problematic issues society faces today. Throughout the years of evolution and invention, violence has become the most progressive thing in our society. The most common description of what violence really is can be given as negativity towards something or someone either through physical or verbal actions, which often causes the victim to suffer pain. The different types of violence that exist in our multi-cultural society are out-numbered, but the most evident ones are domestic, gang, sexual, and racial violence. Through humans’ natural nature of misguidance we often use violence as the solution to many problems, and that may be the real problem. While violence can definitely be reduced, it will never be eliminated due to the nature of humans.
We are constantly being exposed to violence every day. If you watch the news or read the newspaper, you will almost always at least see one article about somebody getting killed or robbed. Violence is all over the media because violence is more interesting than many other things that happen every day. Ask yourself, would you rather be hearing about starving children, or the budget cuts in school, or would you rather be hearing about how a man killed his children? You would probably be more interested in the murder case right? The media will always cover these types of stories because violence is attention captivating. Seeing and hearing about violent things that happen to regular people and violent scenarios that can potentially happen to you stimulate a need to take precaution to protect yourself. So people start buying guns and start to become more paranoid.
