Critical Thinking Application Paper

How you think is just as important as what you think. When problems arise the way that a person behaves and thinks can affect the outcome. Organizations have to be competitive to make sure that needs of the community and society are met. This is when critical thinking comes in to play. Throughout any business situation there are problems that arise that have to be dealt with, these all require critical thinking. How the situations are handled comes down to the way that people personally deal with said situations. Critical thinking is the most important factor when it comes to the decision making process.

According to Elder and Paul, “Critical thinking is the art of thinking about thinking while thinking in order to make thinking better. It involves three interwoven phases: it analyzes thinking, it evaluates thinking, and it improves thinking” (Paul and Elder, 2006). This is basically telling us to think about the problem, analyze the problem, and solve the problem. The only way to understand critical thinking is to understand how to think to begin with.

Analysis forces the person to see the problem and view it from different perspectives, study it, and even question it. The only way to analyze problems is to remove any form of bias and allow objectivity to be present. Analysis is the first and one of the most important steps when it comes to critical thinking. It is during this particular step is used for questioning, theories, and options that all allow the information to be evaluated thoroughly and effectively.

Evaluation comes second in the critical thinking process. During this particular step logic comes into play. The best way to use logic is to look at the problem from outside of them and use different perspectives and angles. This allows someone to view things from different positions and see things that they would have normally not seen.
