CRIME INFORMATION-RELATED PRODUCTS AT POLICE STATION LEVEL

CLIENTS: POLICE STATION MANAGEMENT, SPECIFICALLY CRIME PREVENTION

RESPONSIBLE OFFICE: CRIME INTELLIGENCE OFFICE (CIO)

1. INTRODUCTION AND PURPOSE

The purpose or aim of this guide or base document is to standardize the

crime-related analysis products produced by Crime Intelligence, specifically the Crime Intelligence Office (CIO). There is a need to ensure that crime information-related products are designed in such a way that they assist the Police Service in combating crime in order to reduce the levels of crime. The sole responsibility of this office is to understand the crime situation. This excludes performance assessments.

The national, provincial and cluster Crime Information Management offices share a responsibility to ensure that the offices at station level (CIOs) supply station management with quality crime information. These three offices have to visit police stations and also attend Station Crime Combating Forum (SCCF) meetings in order to ensure that station management receives the necessary support from their intelligence offices (CIOs). This also forms part of consulting our primary clients, specifically police station management, in order to make sure that their crime information-related needs are met.

2. STRUCTURE OF THE PRODUCTS

The products that are provided to the station management must be divided into three categories, namely:

- Daily crime information;

- monthly crime information (compiled weekly), and

- other crime information.

The products are coded CIO (for Crime Intelligence Office) and are numbered from 01 to 10.

2.1 DAILY CRIME INFORMATION

There are basically four daily products to be produced by the CIO. They are as follows:
