Looking to the future, what factors are likely to drive healthcare information technology in the next 30 years?

In the future, there are several factors that will drive Healthcare Information Technology (HIT), such as the growth and advancement of HIT systems based on demand, thereby creating effective performance, adaptation of a standardize billing system that correlates to the HIT system, and replication of effective HIT systems. Collectively, having an HIT system that incorporates all of these factors will contribute to continued improvement of effective patient care and the avoidance of medical errors while doing so. Accordingly, “health IT has the potential to assist in dramatically transforming the delivery of healthcare, making it safer, more effective, and more efficient” (Shekelle et al. 2006).

Growth and advancement in technology using effective HIT system will contribute to the enhancement of providers’ ability to diagnose, treat or prevent health problems of their patients. With the advancement in HIT more treatment options will be made available to providers for conditions that are impossible to treat. Such improvement in medical care will help them avoid putting patients at risk, therefore, decreasing mortality, and in turn contribute to increasing in the survival rate of patients. This will increase the overall spending in healthcare because with the advancement in technology utilizing effective HIT systems, patients will live longer and continue to use these health care services for many more years to come, which ultimately contributes to an increase in revenues.

Adaptation of a standardize billing system using HIT systems are important to our management of patient care. Effective HIT systems will allow facilities associated to maintain and keep track of patient and/or insurance billing accurately. Accessibility to updated billing codes provides the facilities with the correct steps improves record keeping. Claims processing for effective...
