Background Information

1) Purpose of your memo

The purpose of this proposal memo to the Inside Sales Director, Peter Cavasas, is to raise the base pay for Diabetes Therapy Associates, and/or change the bonus structure. When Mr. Cavasas started working at Medtronic, he held department wide think groups to gather information regarding the base pay and bonus structure of the DTA and DTC. Since then, I neither department has seen a change is their pay structure. My goal is to have to sales director change the salary structure for the DTA (Diabetes Therapy Associate) position. I am not requesting this for my pay, as I will be moving on from the DTA department. This is a critical step is hiring and keeping the best talent for the Medtronic Diabetes sales department. We lose DTAs every day to other competitors or industries because of the salary. The main complaint I hear from DTAs concerns their pay structure. Implementing a pay structure that will retain top talent will improve Medtronic Diabetes as a whole. The current base salary for a DTA is $30,000.

2) Audience for your memo

The audience will include the Inside Sales Director (Peter Cavasas) and management above him up to the President of Medtronic Diabetes. From my experience in other project implementations, Katie Zyman (President of Medtronic Diabetes) has the final sign off on something of this magnitude. The initial approval must come from Mr. Cavasas, which is why the proposal memo is being written to him. The memo then could be sent up the chain of command. Peter’s reaction will not be of shock, as he has mentioned before he is looking into the pay structure of the Inside Sales department. Anyone above Peter will be worried about cost.
