Cancer is a medical term used to describe cells that reproduce out of control. Generally, cells in the body die off and reproduce in order for organs or other body functions to maintain themselves.
Most people have a specific pace for which normal cell development will take place. When someone has cancer, too many cells can actually develop in the body, thereby causing cancerous material to lump together within certain portions of a person's body (Leonard).

In the United States, more than 60% of cancers arise in people age 65 and older.
Common cancers of this age group are prostate, breast, colon, pancreas, bladder, stomach, lung, and rectum (Cancer in Older Adults).
Cancer is a complex group of diseases with many possible causes. Some known cancer causes include genetic factors; lifestyle factors such as tobacco use, diet, and physical activity; certain types of infections; and environmental exposures to different types of chemicals and radiation.
