Appreciating My Education

I have never personally had to struggle to get my education, but I definitely have had struggles in my education. My parents would tell me I was a very lucky girl to be able to get a good education because some people could not afford it or their parents would simply not put them into a school and that I better make the best of it cause I really only have one shot at it on their money. Of course I did not really think anything of about what they said and just went on with my life not putting my education first. I definitely did not appreciate my education as much as I should have. I honestly took it for granted, but now that I am in college and paying for it myself I have taken a few steps back and have realized what I have been doing over the years when it came to my attitude towards my education and how I can fix it for now and in the future.

For me, going through elementary school was a piece of cake like any other elementary school would be. I made straight A’s, but that is not really saying much since the subjects were not very hard. I always took a strong interest in music, art, and English and it was very obvious which subjects I liked and very much disliked. When middle school came, a lot more responsibility was put on me for the first time and I definitely was not ready for that dependence on myself. Having to go to seven different classes, having more than one teacher in one day, learning my second musical instrument and having a lot more homework than I was used to really exhausted me physically and mentally. I never had a problem in English or Science so I was golden in those subjects, and proved that to my parents by receiving easy A’s. Math and History were a completely different story.
