Making true and lasting healthy changes in one’s lifestyle means that one needs to incorporate improved health behavior in various aspects of life (King, King, 2011, p. 408). Efforts to encourage more physical activity in society have been seen within the work, home, and community environments.

Many individuals spend a large amount of their lives working in an office. Employer sponsored health promotion programs have shown to be important in developing healthy lifestyle habits for individuals who work there and can be implemented on multiple levels within the workplace (CDC, 2011). One avenue is through on-site activities where employees take part in activities while at work including classes, seminars, competitions or point’s based programs. To develop a successful on-site health promotion program an employee survey could be implemented followed by a one-on-one coaching session or group seminar to best determine the types of activities to offer as part of the program. When wellness programs are designed based on the needs and likes of employees the more likely employees are to take part in the program. Aaccording to the CDC individualized programs have resulted in a 35% increase in the amount of time individuals spend in physical activity (CDC, 2011). Personalized programs assist employees in setting personal goals to employ the physical activities, social support groups within the workplace to achieve those goals. Personal goals and health behavior changes are reinforced through awards and incentive programs (CDC, 2011).
