McDonald’s might have started as an American Culture, but today it is more of an expression of a global culture. McDonald’s began in America with all natural foods and ingredients that were from the local butcher and farmers, but now, all the ingredients are processed and come from many different cattle around the world. Instead of concentrating on the old-fashion food that was all natural, McDonalds has concentrated more on the money and get pre-processed food to serve the people faster. This trend of fast food has reached other countries and is still going strong. People from all over the world, not just Americans want the fast, cheap convenience of McDonald’s food. As stated in James Watson’s “China’s Big Mac Attack” article, McDonald’s today has more than 25,000 outlets in 119 countries. He even states that most of the corporation’s revenues now come from operations outside of the United States, and a new restaurant opens somewhere in the world every 17 hours. I believe that McDonald’s was just the beginning of the trend of the world, fast and convenient. The corporations or companies that are in charge of McDonald’s, Dunkin Donuts, Coca-Cola, or whatever product the people of the world want, are not trying to express a certain culture, they are trying to become a global culture. These corporations are looking to make money and not to put a certain culture stamp on the product. People in the world want what is new and the latest trend, this doesn’t just apply to McDonald’s but with all the latest technologies. Whatever the latest technology, where ever it is created, it takes on the world full force and the world doesn’t consider it an expression of that culture, but an expression of the global culture. McDonald’s was just the first of many global cultures.
