Effective care in health care sector is a cumulative work of different agencies as suggested by the Department of Health (DHS). Those professionals working at health care sector have to work with different other professionals from the same or other sectors so that the patient need will be fulfilled. This collaborative practice is promoted by the NHS ten year reform program plans. This reform is made to form a model or a strategy where professionals from different sections can work together to meet the needs of the patients. This transition of attitude by the health care department was an important step towards reshaping the interprofessional working and the perception of the people towards it which exists today.

INTRODUCTION- INTERPROFESSIONAL WORKING

When professionals work in a collaborative manner to increase the quality of the patient care as well as to make it more effective then it is called as interprofessional working. It makes the workforce more responsive and skilled at the same time making the service provided flexible and well coordinated. Both collaborative service and interprofessional working are the key elements in improving the health care system. It is only through the help of mutual understanding and proper collaboration the multidisciplinary and multi professional team can be built upon for the health care sector. (Allin et al, 2007c).The greatest benefit of this strategy is it gives a wide range to the professionals to work as they are not limited by the traditional boundaries of work as mentioned earlier. This interprofessional working is mostly required in rural areas than what is required in urban areas, since the services required in rural areas are more than the urban areas. (Barnes d, 2006).

A survey was conducted by the RARARI Helse-Nord Conference in 2003 in rural areas which included 89 professionals from health care sector found that interprofessional working is more important in rural sector.
