CHAPTER 1
INTRODUCTION
This chapter gives a detailed description of the organization for which the system was developed. It gives an overview of the goals and visions of the system along with an introduction to Cisco CallManager and Extension Mobility. It also specifies the system environment used in the development of the system. It also specifies the software required and the network protocols used in the system.
1.1 ORGANIZATION PROFILE
Cisco Systems, headquartered at San Jose, California, is the worldwide leader in networking for the Internet. It designs and sells networking and communications technology and services under five brands, namely Cisco, Linksys, WebEx, IronPort, and Scientific Atlanta. Cisco hardware, software, and service offerings are used to create Internet solutions that allow individuals, companies, and countries to increase productivity, improve customer satisfaction and strengthen competitive advantage.
Cisco was founded in 1984 by a small group of computer scientists from Stanford University. They first opened offices in December 1994. The company has local offices in Johannesburg (head office), Pretoria and Cape Town. Since the company’s inception, Cisco engineers have been leaders in the development of Internet Protocol (IP)-based networking technologies.
