In the design of a built environment environmental lighting, transmission of sound and

ventilation rates are critical factors to be taken into consideration as they ensure thermal comfort

and health to both animals and human beings .All these factors should be taken into account so

as to ensure sustainability of a built green building. An urban designer should follow the design

standards when designing at both micro and macro levels. Together with the provision of thermal

comfort and sound control, lighting and ventilation provides the initial environmental aspects of

a building which ensure the physiological and psychological well being of its occupants.

Basically environmental design is meant to design naturally in relation to the environment so as

for sustainability of the built environment.

Awbi (1999) mentioned that ventilation is the process of changing or replacing air any space to

provide high indoor air quality so as to control temperature, replenish oxygen, or remove

moisture, odors, smoke, heat, dust and carbon dioxide. Ventilation is used to remove unpleasant

smells and excessive moisture, introduce outside air to keep interior building air circulating, and

to prevent stagnation of the interior air. Ventilation should provide air to building occupants’ at a

comfortable temperature and humidity that is free of harmful concentration of air pollutants.

Ventilation is one of the most important factors for maintaining acceptable indoor air quality in

buildings. Ventilating has two...
