Introduction

There are 9 themes of digital citizenship they are: digital access, digital commerce, digital communication, digital literacy, digital etiquette, digital law, digital rights & responsibilities, digital health & wellness and digital security. This report will examine these themes affect competiveness and collaboration in a global economy.

Respect, Educate, & Protect (REPs)

Each of the 9 themes of digital citizenship fall into one of three main areas respect, educate, and protect. These themes should be taught at a very elementary level in schools and readily available to everyone. Basic digital skills and knowledge will help the United States be competitive in a global market. (Digital Citizenship,2007-2011)

Respect yourself & others

The three themes that are under respect are etiquette, access, and law. Etiquette is knowing the conduct and procedures in conducting oneself in a digital world. This is often the biggest chanledge we face, especially when we look at collaboration in a global market when many countries have definitions of what is and is not offensieve. We must consider cultral differences as well. Access is an area we can improve upon, by adding mare technlogy in our schools, especially in lowere income schools in depressed areas where children may not have access to a computer in their homes. Laws hold people responsiable for their own actions or deeds, the more we are fimiluar with current laws the less likely we are to break them.

Educate yourself & others
