Research Question: How can effective crisis management and communication help to alleviate a crisis situation and promote longevity for an organization?

The thesis of Hart’s article is that PR Practitioners know that no organization is immune to crisis and it is often people in the PR business who most likely respond to these crises. This study was conducted based on a crisis at BancorpSouth. Nine BancorpSouth locations were expected to be hit by a major storm. The managers took the necessary precautions from start to finish. All affected employs, customers and individuals involved were notified immediately on what steps were being taken. Hart speaks on how BancorpSouth handled this crisis the best way possible and had a plan in place. This study can give other companies and organizations insight on how to handle a crisis based on the measures taken by BancorpSouth. It can be used as a success story for effective crisis management.

Keefe, M. J. & Darling, J. R. (2008). Transformational crisis management in organization development: The case of talent loss at microsoft. Organization Development Journal, 26(4), 43-58.

The thesis of the work completed by Keefe and Darling is that once a crisis arises an organization must act on it immediately. The work was done based on a crisis that took place at the Microsoft Corporation. During the crisis at Microsoft the correct measures were not addressed in a timely fashion. Once the threshold for response is closed it is very difficult to act upon. Keefe and Darling explain the phases of a typical and give diagrams of how the crisis evolves.
