Argument and Logic

Augustine on God and Time is about the ex nihilo theory, this theory is the thought or belief that god had created the world from nothing, this then leads into the thought that time had then started when the world was then created. Until this moment the belief was there was no time, the author supports the argument of the beliefs that nothing exists unless we believe it exists, by introducing the beliefs of other famous philosophers Plato, and Kant, as well as trying to sway them toward his own beliefs and theories. “Augustine’s analysis of time is that it is a subjective phenomenon. It exists “only in the mind”. (Moore & Brude, chpt. 5, p.83)

One of the strengths found in the excerpt was the logical thinking that Augustine had to say and the way that he said it, if someone did believe in god his logic and sway of his words one could it would be possible to sway the believers. “According to Augustine, the question rests on a false assumption that God (and his actions) exist within time”. (Moore & Bruder chpt. 5, p.83)

This will now take us into the substantial weakness. Assuming the author thinks that all the readers are believers in god, what happens when we take god out of the theory, this would eliminate the entire thought process and theory that god created anything, so this now means that time has always existed. Now how did we start tracking time or time tracking us? So, if time is like the rest of reality as mentioned above by these famous philosophers then what happens when two people are in the same place but they both have completely different beliefs/thoughts about where they are and what is present there? If a particular person thinks they are at the beach and another person thinks they are in the mountains, but they are in the same place, how is that resolved? Reality in the persons mind just ‘is’. If it is raining, then it is...
