The mass media means the channels of communication between media and public audience. Mass media involves magazines, radio, newspaper, television and Internet. Mass media reports an important occasion very quickly to audiences after it happens, so it is important for them. The mass media is necessary for life in the United States. People in there spend more time to watch TV, hear radio and read newspaper from different ages. There are many purposes that the media serves in our society. One of them is entertainment. There are many entertainment programs are showed especially on television such as talk show, soap operas, comedy, sport, etc. Sometimes advertising is seen as entertainment part. Another purpose is education. If we look through a television or radio, we can see there are many education programs such as documentaries on a wide range of topics (animal, history, art, etc), a wide variety of instructional programs (cooking, home decorating, etc), and some children’s programs. The media can give important information to people about warnings. For instance, warnings may be given for a bad weather such as warn about tornado, and other hazards such as water or air pollution. Another purpose is that media has role to create our believes and our opinions. Sometimes media has information that encourages us to believe certain things which known as propaganda. Mass media is used to propaganda by commercial interests such as advertisements, which encourage us to believe that certain things can change our live in wonderful way. In addition to these purposes, the mass media is of socialization.
