This paper is being written to describe and explain the current network infrastructure and setup for Patton-Fuller Community Hospital. The network consists of a 1000 BaseT (used mostly in the administrative areas), which uses Cat6 cable and a 1000 BaseF (used in the clinical areas), which uses single mode fiber. As for backup the entire hospital has a complete power backup system with automatic cutover to a large diesel motor generator set. Individual departments have local UPS as depicted on the individual department network diagrams. HIPAA is rigorously enforced. All patient data files are encrypted for storage using AES. All access to patient data files requires identification and authentication of each user. In all Radiology modalities the DICOM standard and PACS are standard. (Apollo Group, Inc.)

The Administrative functions, which include the following areas, use 1000 BaseT Cat6 networking:

• Hospital Executive Management

• Human Resources (HR)

• Operations

• Facilities

• Finance

• IT and Data Center

The clinical functions, which are to include the following areas use 1000 BaseF single fiber mode networking:

• Radiology

• Operating Rooms

• Wards

• ICUs

• Emergency Rooms

• Labs

• Pharmacy

The diagrams below show the different network setups for the various functional areas.[pic]

The above shows the administration networking areas. It shows the Executive Management and Senior Managers are using Apple, the data entry staff are using Thin Client computers and each major department has 2 B&W laser and 1 Color laser printer. These units within Administration are all together networked using 1000 Base T Cat 6 cabling.
