Personal Ethics Statement

Respect is a value that should be earned and not given away. To respect someone and something is acknowledging they have value. Everyone wants to be treated fairly. Equality also does just that. Equality is making sure every person gets treated fairly and given the same opportunities. I believe in coming together as a community to achieve the best outcome. To respect someone is to make sure we treat everyone equal.

I’m able to see both sides and see that everyone has a point. I believe there are universal principles and we all need to abide by them. Everyone deserves to be treated equally no matter their race, gender, background or ethical beliefs. One of my strengths is my balance. I am able to balance between rationality, equality, autonomy and sensibility. I am able to make my decisions on self-knowledge, free will, justice and compassion. I also can make decisions that foster interdependence and are both consistent and adaptable. One of my weaknesses is superiority. If I am not paying attention, I can be tempted to become the expert in all matters ethical. If I believe that I have a balanced point that gives me a superior ability to resolve ethical situations, I may convince myself that I have all the answers and I don’t need any input from others. I know growing up I thought I had all the answers, but now with my knowledge and maturity I have gained over the years, it has become more of a second nature to hear what others have to say and listen to their feedback.

Personal ethics to me means to treat everyone and everything equally and with respect no matter the situation you’re in. It takes a person with ethics to treat everyone equally. If I was ever in a situation where I had to use my personal ethics, I would make sure to listen to all sides of the problem and give my utmost attention. I would make sure my decision was fair, equal between the parties and everyone was treated with respect until the situation...
