 Apple

 iPhone

 in

 a

 corporate

 ERP

 environment.

 

 

  Introduction

  As personal computers have become miniaturized in size and their capabilities are coupled with the ubiquity of a cellular telephone, the question naturally arises; can a smart phone be used as an effective tool in an ERP environment? More specifically is there an opportunity for the iPhone by Apple to become a tool for corporate enterprises? In order to answer that question we will look at this issue from several different angles. 1) Security requirements for corporate enterprise 2) Existing smart phone deployments in corporate enterprise 3) How Apple thinks it can tackle the issues -­‐ statement of problem

As devices get smaller and their storage capacity of sensitive date increases, how can corporate enterprises ensure that this sensitive data and corporate accessibility not be compromised or fall into the wrong hands. Can anything be done about this problem? Furthermore what are the security risks with using smartphones? Are there applications that can be used? Is the iphone a real world viable option for corporate enterprise? -­‐ -­‐ -­‐ why there is a problem how you are attempting to solve the problem how the rest of paper is organized.

Survey of Current literature Depending on the industry target, it appears that there are various solutions and more importantly standards already proposed or in place that provide either guidelines or in some cases, stipulations that smartphones have to meet. Failure to meet such guidelines means the products are not acceptable and are thus are not placed on an Approved List for Purchase. For example, the Federal Government has developed a set of guidelines for cellphones and PDA’s that it expects all agencies to use when making purchasing decisions.
