* What about the relationship between fathers and sons in this novel? What insights does the text offer?

The relationship between Amir and his father, Baba which what he was used to calling him, was not of what I called a close father and son relationship. They were nothing alike in personality. His father was a man that always wanted his boy to be like him. Amir was a child that did not ever stand up for anyone or himself. He never stood up for his closest friend, a boy called Hassan, which was the son of his father’s servant, a very loyal man to Amir’s dad. Hassan was a boy with all the qualities that Amir’s father always wanted to see in his son. He would have loved that his son could enjoy playing soccer, which is very famous sport in Afghanistan, were this novel took place. And that he could also be very athletic and fight for other people and defend his friends no matter what. But Amir was the opposite. He enjoyed writing and reading. He always was trying to impress his father and showed him that he had the qualities he’s dad always looked for. Amir’s dad took him once to compete in one of Afghans sport, but he was so disappointed in his son. That in the novel he once said “if I hadn’t seen the doctor pull him out of my wife with my own eyes, I’d never believe he’s my son”. He always saw deep inside that Hassan could of have been more his son that Amir due to all the qualities the young boy had, which were the qualities he wanted his son to have. Amir knew this and he was afraid of losing his father, just as he lost his mother in his early years. In the biggest kite running tournament, an event that Baba had never won, Amir had a chance to show his father he was the son that he always wanted. And so, he did. He won the big event and his dads proudly cheer for him. Amir was very happy to see his that for the first time act that way.
