True research requires the researcher, once having decided upon a topic of research, to predict what the results of the research will be. This hypothesis is then proven true, false, or sometimes inconclusive as a result of the research. For the purpose of this paper, a peer reviewed article pertaining to a particular research topic had to be chosen. The article would be read, its hypothesis determined, and then discussed once it was determined whether the hypothesis was proven, disproven, or found to be inconclusive.

The topic chosen was marketing, and more specifically, if marketing conducted among a population of bilingual participants, the participants would react more strongly or decisively top marketing done in their primary language as opposed to their secondary language. The article’s hypothesis was that, in a society being more and more populated by people who speak more than one language, survey participants would demonstrate more powerful or emotional reactions to questions asked in their primary, or native language, as opposed to questions asked in their adopted or secondary language.

Six studies were done, with some surveys being in written form, with participants reading surveys in their native language as well as their secondary language. Some of the studies were done primarily utilizing photo advertisements, followed by surveys asking for emotional responses in both primary and secondary languages, and other surveys were conducted verbally utilizing translators. The studies concluded that written surveys tended to demonstrate that people did show more intense emotional responses when their primary language was used in the survey, whereas surveys conducted in their secondary language showed less emotional responses. By “emotional”, the researchers were referring to the intensity of the emotions demonstrated (i.e. extremely happy, moderately...
