When dealing in competitive industries organizations must analyze and decide which areas need improvement. Kudler Fine Foods determined updating their inventory system would benefit their organization as well as their customers. Having an outdated system Kudler Fine Foods runs the risk of data producing incomplete or incorrect information. Recommendations for improvements along with the use of pivot tables and entity relationship diagrams will assist in advancing the accounting and inventory procedures.

Design Elements for the Database

Kudler Fine Foods data tables are organized into general ledger codes, inventory item, summary line item, and amount. The general ledger code represents the store location, the department and the product. For example, the general ledger code 123012 represents the (12) La Jolla (30) meat and seafood department (11) sausage. Whereas the general ledger code 143012 represents the Encinitas Meat and Seafood department for sausage. Currently Kudler Fine Foods system makes it difficult to establish how much inventory is on hand and when it is time to re-order.

Entity Relationship Diagram

Entity Relationship Diagram is a graphical documentation used to depict the entities and their direct relationships. The model consists of four symbols: rectangles which represent the entities, diamonds which describe the nature of relationships, ovals denote an entities attributes, and the connecting lines that depict the relationships (Bagranoff, Simkin, Strand, 2008). The data included in the entity relationship diagram includes the entities and the relationships between them.

Recommendation for Improvements

Improvement of the data tables will provide more adequate information for the end user. The data table needs to provide information to management to improve decision making and keep costs down. The data tables need to include the cost per item and the quantities available. For example,...
