Diversity covers a broad range of topics. You will experience diversity in pretty much everything you do.
Diversity has been a big part of my time spent in college. It has helped me grow as a person and broaden
my horizon. For many people it is a big obstacle to overcome. A big key to overcoming diversity is
acceptance.
One of the many ways I have experienced diversity is the wide variety of cultures and people. People go
about doing and handling things in many different ways. You may feel your way is best and the only way
to complete a task. Allowing others to show and explain a different outlook will help you out in the
future. You not only have your way of looking at something, but your acceptance of other opinions
gives you multiple options. Even though it may be challenging, one should avoid ethnocentrism. Not
only does it cause tension, but it makes you look bad. When you accept differences, you feel
comfortable when facing diversity.
When working in groups, there are multiple factors of diversity. You have members that want to
complete the project as soon as it is assigned, and there are others who put it off until the night before.
You have the members who want to complete the project by themselves, and there is those who do not
want any part of doing the project. Overcoming these challenges can be tricky. The best way to
overcome these things is finding the medium. When you do this, everone can be happy and complete
the task with ease.
While traveling to different countries, I have encountered lots of diversity. The language barrier is very
hard to overcome. Obviously it is very hard to communicate. Luckily I knew some spanish which made
things easier. In future visits I will try and learn more to help overcome this barrier. Also, things were
done very slow compared to the US. While eating here, we expect to sit down, eat, and leave in a short
