PROBLEM:

Would a taller person’s nerves react quicker than a shorter person’s?

HYPOTHESIS:

If an object is dropped to two people of different height, than the shorter person’s nerves will react quicker on average, because there is less body mass for the signal/stimuli to travel through.

LAB COMPONENTS:

The control group of the experiment would be the dominant visual test. The experimental groups are the non-dominant visual test, the dominant auditory test, and the dominant distraction test. The independent variable for each test was different. For the non-dom. visual test, it was the hand used. For the dom-aud. test, it was eyes closed. For the dom-distraction, it was doing a math problem at the same time of catching the object. The dependent variable was the reaction time.

ANALYSIS:

My problem was, “would a taller person’s nerves react quicker than a shorter persons?” In our experiment, we observed reaction times under four different conditions. For dominant visual and non-dominant visual, we noticed the change was not significant. I, the shorter of the two, only caught the ruler .2 centimeters faster than the taller person for dominant visual. For non-dominant visual, I caught it only 1.7 centimeters faster. But, for the conditions such as dominant auditory and dominant distraction, it differed greatly. For dominant auditory, I caught it 4.2 centimeters faster. For dominant distraction, the taller person caught it 5.5 centimeters quicker. The sensory receptors, (a part of a sensory neuron), work with the association neuron to transmit, recognize, and receive signals from the brain. The motor neurons control the movement we make from the signals. The effector organ can only mobilize when specific nerve impulses are conducted.

For my part of the experiment where I compared me, my partner, and a subject who is fifteen plus years older than both of us, we had a significant increase in the outcome. I had a person of 40...
