The Dark of the Moon

My most recent trip the Pittsburgh playhouse was one of my darkest hours. The most recent trip included the performance of Point Parks Dark of the Moon, A wicked love story with an all too unfamiliar ending. The Dark of the moon is not your normal love story; it is one of a dark romance with many odds against them. The story is of John and Barbara is a tragic love story between a “Witch Boy” and a mortal girl named Barbara Allen and the ultimate deal with the devil.

The Pittsburgh playhouse is a great venue for a play such as the dark of the moon. The play house provided an intimate setting for a play with such a dark setting, it allowed the audience to really emerge themselves into the play an really capture the dark feeling of the play. Much of the play houses dark intimate setting was very much brought on because of the darkness of the production set. The production set of the stage was very versatile setting allowing only slight prop and background changes through the play. The innovated design left the ability of the viewer to imagine them in a world far from the play house. Simple changes to a wood background allowed the appearance of the dark, gory stage to remain the same throughout the play, very much of the stages mood was also much credited to the lighting on the stage. The lighting on stage allowed the moods of the Conjour women and john to be expressed very well, allowing the audience to feel her anger feel her intense mood and seriousness of the ultimate bargain she was making with john. With the Conjour women’s intense moods and dark attitude she was allow to shine in the production although her appearance was only for a short time her role was so well played that you couldn’t help but feel her presence throughout the production.
