A) Basic Information:

Area: 

1,922,570 million sq km (742,308 sq miles).

Population: 

237 million (2008).

Capital: 

Jakarta (Java).

Population: 13.2 million.

Government: 

Republic. Declared independence from The Netherlands in 1945.

Head of state: 

President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, since 2004.

Language:

Business in Indonesia is conducted either in English or Bahasa Indonesian. If you are

doing business in a larger city or with multinational corporations, English will more

likely be used. It is however wise to bring an interpreter. Businesses located in more

rural areas will find it difficult to conduct business in English.

The Indonesian  language has no specific equivalent to "hello", but instead uses greetings specific to the time of day; "Selamat Pagi" for morning, "Selamat Siang" for afternoon, "Selamat Sore" for evening and "Selamat Malam" for night.

Currency, money and payment method:

Main currency: Indonesian rupiah (IDR). USD, AUD and Euro are accepted.

Exchange rate: 1 USD = 9179.02 IDR (common rate : 1usd = 9 idr) Money is one of the most widely used payment instruments in society. Notes are in denominations of Rp100,000, 50,000, 20,000, 10,000, 5,000, 1,000 and 500. Coins are in denominations of Rp1,000, 500, 200, 100 and 50.

Credit cards: 

American Express, MasterCard, Visa, Diners Club and Eurocard are widely accepted in Jakarta and the main tourist areas. In more remote areas, it is best to carry cash in small denominations. ATMs are available in towns.

Weather:

Indonesia has a equatorial climate, which is influenced by the surrounding seas and determined by the monsoon. There is a dry season from June to September and a rainy season from November to March. The annual average temperature in Jakarta is between 23°C and 33°C.
