Team Reflection Week Six

Change within an organization can be difficult for individuals to adapt and accept; therefore implementing change in a manner that will be most receptive is essential. This week the team focus is on implementing change successfully and developing strategies that will lead to success. The objectives this week include identifying properties of innovative organizations and factors for successful change and strategies to implement change. The following summary will describe the team’s areas of comfort with these topics, struggles, and how the topics apply to his or her current employment.

A topic of significance during the fifth week is resistance to change, the sources, and methods to overcome resistance. Resistance to change originates from the individual and the organization. On the work environment reducing or eliminating is the ideal. The ideal is impossible. Habit, security, and fear of the unknown are sources of resistance to change of the individual. Organizational sources of resistance to change can be structural inertia, limited focus, and threats to established power relationships. Tactics such as communication, education, and participation among those involved in change can overcome resistance to change. Developing positive relationships of trust (manager and employee) can help overcome resistance to change. Fair inclusion on the process through participation helps diminish resistance. Organizations will seek to diminish resistance through manipulation, cooptation, and coercion as a means of last resort when all else fails or resistance becomes huge (Robbins & Judge, 2011).

Managers can implement change in many ways so that the process will be a positive experience. One of the most important aspects is to educate the employees about the change process taking place, expressing his...
