1. What is e-learning?
According to Schweizer’s article on page 674 in the first paragraph, ‘
E-learning (also called learning technology) is replacing face-to-face
classroom instruction in a growing
number of businesses’. E-learning is the use of network technologies to
create, foster, deliver and facilitate learning, anytime and anywhere. The
invention of new technologies such as computers and the internet,
brought a significant change to the learning process of today. Now it is
possible for students and teacher or students and students to interact
effectively in the learning process. They interacted synchronously( in real
time) or asynchronously (at different times). By combining audio, videos,
graphics, video conferencing and lectures into the courses improved the
learning experience. E-learning provides the possibility for teachers
and students to use a variety of media to convey, synthesize, analyze and
create knowledge. E-learning transforms the concepts of correspondence
study and educational television into a 21st century educational technology.
E-learning became popular with businesses, universities, students,
employees and professionals due the fact that it is an effective way of
teaching that is adaptable to many learning contexts.
2. What is the importance/purpose of this research?
Referring to page 675, this article explores the growing role that e-learning plays in businesses, the challenges business faces in using e-learning technologies, and the ways business is overcoming these challenges. It surveys the history and business use of e-learning, examines forces affecting business use of e-learning technologies and discusses the growing role that e-learning will play in business.
