‘’Terrorism Is Never Justified’’

How would I asses the above statement? I would first off have to say that I believe that terrorism is never justified. I have deployed many times where I had to deal with terrorism more than I would have liked to. Terrorism is classified as a way to instill fear. Most terrorist use this act to gain political, religious or social gains. It is hard to believe that some countries raise their fellow man to believe in and to act upon terrorism. Terrorist can be either state supported or independent. State supported terrorist get contributions such as money or equipment to commit their acts. Independent terrorists act on their own dime and equipment. I find myself baffled that people could actually think that by killing innocent people that their cause is justified. Terrorism isn’t committed just by other countries; it’s happening in our own backyard by our own fellow Americans. The United States in general doesn’t bring Americans to believe nor condone terrorism. We are brought up to stand up and fight against it. I don’t feel that terrorism is justified in any circumstance. How can killing innocent people for your own political, social, or religious gains be justified at all? Terrorism does have very damaging effects on people as we all know. Samuel Scheffler puts it into good terms (Ch 5 pg 97), ‘’the problem is that living with fear can have corrosive effects even for those who are encouraged and determined to preserve.” People live in fear all the time when they hear that some kind of terrorism has taken place. Those people don’t want to live in fear by nature but it is hard not to when we hear and see such terrible act happen before us. There are some religions that tell their people that terrorism is justified. It is told that it is ok to go out and kill innocent people to make whatever gain it is that they are after because their god deems it necessary.
