Nike vs. Under Armour

Rhetorical Essay

For this assignment, my biggest problem was gathering the information I needed over these two videos. I feel like the paragraph over ethos was very solid.

While watching TV you often see apparel commercials competing against each other. So that’s what I chose to write this essay over. Nike and Under Armour are two of the most respected athletic brands in the industry. The companies are a lot alike but extremely different in how they try and convey their point. Throughout this essay I will be comparing and contrasting these companies on these commercials the produced: “Alter Ego” and “Cam’s Night Out”.

Personally I think these companies products are a lot like, they both are effective in what they do , but in these commercials you can tell that Nike and Under Armour are trying to sell products to specific region of the United States. Both are mainly targeting where they were invented. Nike is mainly North West region and Under Armour is primarily North East. Also these companies choose all-stars’; Adrian Peterson and Cam Newton, who play in these regions I was previously talking about. In each video you can tell by the weather, type of field, and once again the player. For example, Nike’s “Alter Ego” is very dreary and it’s snowing but in Under Armour’s “Cam’s Night Out”, it is very nice and colorful.

In most commercials these days, companies are using super stars to sell their product. They are getting smart, in which knowing that Adrian Peterson and Cam Newton are heroes in most kids eyes. So therefore kids wanting to be just like them, they will want to buy their products. In Nikes “Alter Ego” they use professional running back for the Minnesota Vikings, Adrian Peterson. The majority of the reason I think is because he plays in the region in which I touched on and he’s also is a running back. Which is another point Nike is trying to get across, toughness.
