Personal responsibility can be a matter of life or death. It can be considered the backbone to living a fulfilling life. Parents have taught that to get ahead one must take responsibility of their own lives and make it happen. Education, living a healthy lifestyle and becoming responsible for one’s actions are fundamental in personal responsibility.
Education is a vital aid in development. Teaching individual’s young and old about sexually transmitted infections, safe sex, immunizations, and that doing a routine check-up is important. It enables the individual to take responsibility (WBG, 2011). In the education setting some have more ambition to succeed than others. These people understand that it is their responsibility. Creating the motivation to obtain knowledge and achieve personal success. Training the human mind is also important. Early experience and interaction with the environment is critical in brain development (Brotherson, 2005). Without proper education, humanity will never live up to their full potential. Mark Rosenzweig, a pioneer in psychological brain development at University of California, Berkeley, conducted extensive studies on laboratory rats in the 50s and 60s. His research was able to show that “environmental therapy” can stimulate brain growth. Growth occurs at a cellular level not only in juveniles but also in adults. For example, he found that rats given stimulating interactive tasks and that lived in an “enriched environment,” performed better at learning activities than those living in passive, impoverished conditions (Glickman, Hafter, & Riley, 2010). Providing children with a way to be creative also develops the mind and allows the child to succeed. Stimulate them by reading to them every day. Encourage them to learn diverse topics.
