My Experence of Study in United States

Name: Ruipeng Li In my past more than one year study at Stevens Institute of Technology, I obtained many precious experience about study and live in United States. One of the most important events happened in my first class in my first semester. In my first class, I was the only Chinese student in that class. I suddenly felt very nervous and anxiety because I was afraid that I couldn’t deal with that situation then got a bad grade. But I was very clear that I needed to adjust the environment because challenging and improving myself was a significant purpose for studying abroad. So I started my plan. Every time I usually previewed the class about three hours before the class in order to understand professor’s talking. Meanwhile, I trained my English listening abilities for several hours every day in order to adjust professor’s speaking. After several classes, I started to try answer professor’s questions on the class in order to give the professor feedback that I could handle the class by myself. At the same time, I started to speak with native students on the class bravely to obtain their attention. So in the next class discussion, native student could start to share opinions with me and ask me to describe my opinion. This was the key step about involving into the class and group. Before each presentation, I revised the drafts several times and practice my pronunciation over ten time just because I wanted to present the presentation perfectly. Finally, the professor said I was a student with huge potential development. My peers in the group said they would prefer to stay with me in the same group if we had the same class in the future and told me that I could ask them for help at any time. Of course, my final grade of first class was A. From this event, I really experience that I need to trust myself, I should keep strong confident because I can do better than before and I can obtain my achievement after my hard study.
