Defining marketing

Marketing is defined in several different ways and usually the definition is based on the source that is providing the definition. In this paper I will give my own personal definition of marketing a well as the definition for marketing from two viable sources. I will then explain how two different companies use marketing. Marketing can be defined differently based on who is giving the definition I personally believe marketing is the action or actions taken by a company or a single individual that is trying to encourage someone to purchase a product or obtain a service. This is how the American Marketing Association defines marketing, marketing is the activity, set of institutions, and processes for creating, communicating, delivering, and exchanging offerings that have value for customers, clients, partners, and society at large   (American Marketing Association Marketing Power, October 2007).Another source that also provides a definition for marketing is The Business Dictionary.com, and it defines marketing in a similar but also different way. According to the Business Dictionary.com marketing is defined as, management process through which goods and services move from concept to the customer.   As a philosophy, it is based on thinking about the business in terms of customer needs and their satisfaction. As a practice, it consists in coordination of four elements called 4P’s: (1) identification selection, and development of a product, (2) determination of its price, (3) selection of a distribution channel to reach the customer’s place, and (4) development and implementation of a promotional strategy (BusinessDitionary.com, 2011). There is also another view of marketing this is the way that the consumer defines what marketing is most consumers just believe that marketing is just a technique used by companies to get consumers to buy products that are all basically the same...
