I. Introduction.

By a show of hands, how many people know that there are two main medical practices in the world? Now think to yourself, what could they be? Let me share with you the two medical practices. They are alternative medicine and traditional medicine.

II. Being that my mom pass away from cancer with the use of traditional medicine. I have researched this topic of alternative medicine vs. traditional medicine. I felt that sharing this information would be extremely beneficial to all of us. Since most of us including myself tend to trust the traditional medicine that we receive from our health care physicians.

III. Today, I’m here to convince you not to do away with traditional medicine, but to be open minded to alternative medicine as well.

1. It is medical treatment that has not been scientifically documented or identified as safe or effective for a specific condition.

2. According to Cleveland Clinic (2008) Alternative medicine encompasses a variety of disciplines that include everything from diet and exercise to lifestyle changes.

3. Examples of alternative medicine would be acupuncture, chiropractic, yoga, herbal remedies and massages just to name a few.

B. Why is alternative medicine so popular?

1. According to Mayo Clinic (2007) alternative medicines have become more popular as people seek greater control of their own health and become proactive.

2. Alternative medicines is closer to nature, cheaper and less invasive than conventional

medicine.

3. For example, people with chronic illnesses, are looking for answers to their disease management questions. Sometimes traditional medicine cannot provide those answers.
