Change Management Theories

Change is an inevitable fact, which applies to all organizations. While most organizations avoid change as a rule, others tolerate it as a reactionary response, but a brave few embrace change as an opportunity. According to Welch (2005), an organization or individual should “Change before you have to.” It is apparent that change will come; the question then becomes how management will address the necessity for change and the certain resistance of it by the organization and individuals called on to initiate changes. This paper will address the challenges presented in the Organizational Structure simulation, as each team member becomes a change agent that invokes driving forces that will positively affect the organizational culture at Synergetic Solutions Inc.

Drivers for Change

Synergenic Solutions was a company, which assembled and resold leading computer brands. However, it was noticed there were needs and growth potential for the company, in computer networking. The decision was made to guide the company in this direction.

When realigning a company’s focus, consideration of both the internal and external environment must be taken into consideration. At Synergetic, it was very important to consider boosting the employees’ motivation. Motivation had to be instilled into the employees to accept the coming changes, and to learn the necessary skills to make the changes successful. “Morale generally increases when employees are empowered to help reduce the impact of the company’s products and processes” (National Research Council Canada, 2003).
