There are so many different disorders that are diagnosed of symptoms can determine what the particular disorder an individual may have. Schizophrenia is psychotic disorders which consist of a chronic sever brain disorder. This disorder affects individuals every day and affects 1% of Americans. Schizophrenia has a severe impact on an individual’s impairment, their emotions and behavior. Although one who is diagnosed with schizophrenia can maintain a healthy yet normal life as long as they continue to make healthy decisions and take their medication as directed. This paper will discuss the impact that schizophrenia has on an individual and how it could affect the individual during their lifespan.

Schizophrenia and Psychosis

Schizophrenia can be distinguished by several different types of rare behaviors. The human thought process is the most important. This is where psychosis comes into play. However, schizophrenia is a difficult disorder, making it harder to diagnose it because it is not as persistent as other disorders. Individuals can have schizophrenia for many years and not have any out breaks but it only takes one incident to happen causing it to flare up. Research shows schizophrenia can be inherited, however it is known for the inheritance from a family member to family member that has suffered from the disorder themselves (WebMD, 2011). There are components that play a big part in the diagnosis of schizophrenia.

Types of schizophrenia

There are many different types of schizophrenia such as paranoid-type, disorganized-type, catatonic-type, undifferentiated and residual-type (WebMD, 2011). Knowing what type will help diagnose individuals that might have symptoms and it would help with determining the right medication.
