Working Title: Preventing Underage Drinking and Drug Abuse in Local Communities Around America |
Topic Description: In local communities around the U.S, community councils discuss the critical issues teenagers have to deal with towards drug abuse and underage drinking, but there is no easy resolution. My research paper will discuss this problem and propose a strategy for preventing drugs and alcohol for underage teens. |
Working Thesis: If alcohol and drugs are kept out of young adults reach, the number of teens getting into car accidents or arrest will decrease making communities across America secure. |

Prousky, E., Jonathan, Foltran Francesca, Lauria, Verduci, B. (2011). Reducing alcohol abuse: Why reducing alcohol abuse with acupuncture as a form of treatment will lead to a better community. Scientific publishing company: Americas Standard. Washington, D.C: American Journal of Medicine. |
Prousky, et al. argues that when police departments engage in community-building partnerships, they are able to prevent and respond to crimes more effectively. The authors identify five main community-building tasks and, for each task, provide several examples of departments that have executed the tasks with positive crime-prevention outcomes. These examples are very compelling, but they are ultimately just isolated anecdotes that do not, by themselves, prove the cause/effect relationships that the authors describe. Duffee, et al. seem to be aware that more data is necessary to determine the real effects of community-building efforts, and they urge police departments to thoroughly assess their community-building efforts so that more data will be available for those trying to develop better community-building practices. |
